Monday Review and Giveaway – WellStart Development Software

I know Mondays can be tough going so here’s a review and giveaway to cheer you up!

WellStart is software designed by experienced GPs to help parents and parents-to-be.  It shows you week to week development milestones through pregnancy and right up to your child is 5 years old.

You can also add you own pictures, videos and child achievements to the tracker. It’s a pregnancy book and journal all rolled into one and on your computer. It’s available for PC and Mac. After purchasing you receive a link to download the WellStart installer to your computer, and a licence key to activate it once installed.

Two of the parents to be on my Parents Panel have been testing it out and this is what they have to say about it.

Price:    £9.98

Available from: www.wellstart.co.uk as a download or as a CD from online retailers such as www.amazon.co.uk, www.play.com or www.mumstheword.com

Suitable for: future parents or parents

Initial Reaction: What do I do first? But don't worry, the software is so easy to use that even technical embryos start exploring instantly.

Pros:
  •  lots of easy to understand information that is updated regularly,
  •  possibility to upload your own photos and information

Cons:
  •  missing pictures of child development in weekly overview

Value for money? Brilliant

Overall Reaction: We started using the software a couple of weeks after finding out we are expecting our first baby and I have to say I am glad we've got it installed. The software is basically self-explanatory and whenever we want to read up on the development of our baby girl (and that is a lot), we can simply log on and  find all the information we need in one of the many texts provided on the different stages of pregnancy. As daddy-to-be isn't a keen reader, it is brilliant that all the texts are really short and easy to understand, however not lacking any of the information you need to understand what is happening inside your body.

What I really love about the WellStart Child Development Tracker is that all the information provided is by medical experts, so you can be sure you don't trust the “knowledge” of wannabe-experts. Another brilliant feature is the calendar that enables you to keep track of all your appointments and also allows you to update the different stages of pregnancy with your own media.

Altogether, I am really happy we are using the WellStart software because it gives us the safety future parents need to fully enjoy the long 9 months before holding our baby in our arms. The only thing I am missing are pictures that show me how my baby's look changes from week to week but I can  check out the software's online service (www.babycentre.co.uk) for that, so it really isn't a big deal.

Initial Reaction:I found it easy to enter all the details needed but found the menus a bit confusing to navigate round to start with. I soon found my way and discovered that the information

Pros:
  • The main diary page is easy to navigate round and the daily and weekly reminders can just be opened by clicking on them given is a great reference guide
  • A great reference guide and saves using that not so photographic memory to remember what you should be looking out for when from that book you read 3 months ago!
  • You get to choose what and when you view and record, making this software appealing to everybody from the parents that get it as a gift to the parents that want or need to record every little moment, kick and more
  • You can add other children at any time, along with additional parents
  • Easy to share pictures on Facebook with friends and and family

Cons:
  • Found the menus a bit confusing to navigate round to start with
  • I think that there could be too much information to both record and look at times, but the great thing is you get to choose what and when you view and record

Value for money? Yes

Overall Reaction: WellStart is a complete software solution that tracks and informs you from conception onwards. The program lets you add photos and videos as well as diary reminders, achievement, and medical notes for each child you have. The easiest way to describe it is a combination of baby manual and baby book but lasting the life of your child!

The reminders and notes are grouped in 5 categories - medical, measurement, development, achievement and diary, and can all be turned on and off individually to make the monthly or weekly diary pages more or less detailed. Another great thing is that you can add other children at any time, along with additional parents and so can create your own family book almost without trying!

I think that we will continue to use the software to plan, inform and record the path of our first child. Only time will tell if we can use it to its full potential.
