How Did You Choose Your Child’s Name?

This post is provided by bounty

When we were thinking of baby names for BG we knew what name we wanted for a girl but it was the boys names we got stuck on. It was hard to choose as we didn’t know if we were having a boy or a girl.

I knew from a really early age what name I wanted for it I had a girl, of course we went through girls names but ultimately I my choice won.  Though we were stuck for middles names we decided not to go with parents names as I couldn’t be doing with the arguments so eventually we just went for a name we thought sounded good with the first name we had chosen.

I also had a boy’s name I liked but OH vetoed it so we had to make a list of the names we liked. My favourites were Ollie, Harry and Toby.

It was really important for us that a name suited our child throughout their whole lifetime.  Some names sound really cute on a child but don’t suit an adult. I won’t give an example as I will probably offend someone!

We also checked the initials to make sure they didn’t make a funny word.

I think it’s really hard to know what name is right until your baby is born. We knew with BG we had chosen the right name it suited her.

  1. Ah, it's a triksey one!

I always thought my daughter would be Amelia after Amelia Bedelia, but I used that one on a baby I lost.

Isobel was named. Y her daddy, I was trying to get him to buy into the baby thing. It didn't work but I can't imagine her being anything else. Oh except the isobellareni I call her sometimes

  2. I can't even remember why Ryan became Ryan. I remember thinking that I was having a girl and he would have been Olivia or Chloe had he been.

This time round I seesawed between thinking it was a boy or a girl. We had picked quite a few girls names that we liked, but couldn't agree on boys names at all. Isabelle came about when we were visiting friends and there was a little girl running ahead of her mum. She shouted "Isabelle" after her and she turned round and gave her mum the sweetest grin before running off again. She looked so cheeky and we loved it from then on.
