Book Review - Save Our Sleep by Tizzie Hall

Save our Sleep written by Tizzie Hall is a guide for parents to help get their child in to a sleep routine, it’s aimed at children from birth to two years old.

I know that sleep routines are not for every parent, and if you are anti-sleep routines then this book isn’t for you .If you want to get your baby in a good routine from birth, or if your child is having sleep problems then this book could help.

There has been a lot of talk in the press recently about controlled crying, Save Our Sleep doesn’t advocate Controlled Crying, however is does distinguish between emotional Crying and Protest Crying. Emotional Crying is when something is wrong with the baby and they are distressed and Tizzy says you should never leave an emotional cry but its best to leave a Protest Cry, which is when the child is fighting sleep.

This book aims to help parents understand and avoid sleep problems, helping parents customise a sleep routine best for their child. There are 13 chapters including-

Feeding in the first two week – with advice on both breast and bottle feeding

Things Affecting Sleep and Settling – Such as wind, colic and reflux

Solving Sleep Problems – Including what can trigger them

Multiple Love and Early arrivals - Routines for multiple births and premature babies.

What I like about this book is it gives practical advice about what affects your Childs sleep and how to solve it. It’s filled with tips and solutions and you can tailor the routines to your child, doing what you think is best for you child. It’s not all you must do this, you must do that.
If you are looking for a good sleep handbook, then I recommend giving this one a go.

The author Tizzy Hall has been a baby sleep expert for over 15 years and Save Our Sleep was started in 1996, there is a self-help website www.saveoursleep.co.uk as well as this handbook.

Save Our Sleep is available on Amazon, its currently £7.49
