Homemade Christmas – Vinyl Bowls.

I wish I could take the credit for this idea but it is from Kirtsy Alsopp’s Home Made Home programme.  Me and OH watched the programme together and knew instantly this would perfect gifts for our family.

The very next day I trawled the charity shops for old vinyl records, I was very picky with what ones I choose. I didn’t want to destroy great records.

Our first attempt was on a Jason Donavan record Too Many Broken hearts, we are doing the world a favour by recycling it!

It’s really simple to do.

  • Set you oven to 150oc.
  • Place an upturned mug on a baking tray and then place the record on top of it.
  • Put in the oven for 30 secs to a minute. (we left the door open slightly so we could see when it melted)
  • Once it starts to droop and melt take it out of the oven.
  • Carefully shape the bowl, it should be too hot but take care.
  • Remove from mug and leave to cool.

This is ours....

It was present for my BIL so we used the record cover to wrap it.

He loved it and everyone else thought it was cool. Which is good as they probably all get one.

What I love about this is not only did it only cost a £1!! But you can personalise it with the record you choose. We have made one for us from Neil Sedka’s Oh Carol album!

You can give the bowl as a gift of its own or use them as gift baskets.

We are trying singles next to see if we can make mini bowls!
