Parent Panel Review - Nelsons Arnicare Bath and Massage Balm

Price:  from £6.95

Available from: Amazon, Boots

Initial Reaction: I loved the smell. Although advertised as a balm this is really an oil which has multiuse as a bath addictive and massage oil. The packaging was nice and easy to wipe down if any excess oil is spilt.

Pros: It reminded me a lot of bergamot and I loved the fact it wasn’t flowery or too ‘pretty’ smelling. The smell was mellow enough to be unisex with hints of Lavender and Grapefruit. A capful was enough for one bath.

Cons: You had to use quite a lot for a back massage. About a 5th bottle was taking up in one bath and one massage. Although the oil was great in the bath and a little went a long way it did leave a greasy film on the bath.

Value for money? Online the price ranges from £6.95 on Amazon to £7.95 on smaller distributors. At the £6.95 I think there are other products in this field that are better value for money.

Overall Reaction: It was a lovely product as bath oil but it seemed too much for the product to be massage oil too – although different skin types might disagree. Nelson Arnicare would make a lovely gift for someone who loves aromatherapy.

Here are a few massage tips from Michelle Juniper, Health and Beauty Specialist from Tip To Toe to ensure you get it right on the night.
·       Start by warming the balm in your hands then apply to the massage area using long smooth stokes with the whole of your hands, (palms and fingers). This will warm the balm and spread it evenly over the skin.
·       If applying stronger pressure concentrate on the fleshy areas where there is more muscle. Avoid hard pressure over the bones e.g. on the spine, instead focus on the muscles that run either side of the spine.
·       As you massage the Sweet Almond oil, Evening Primrose oil and Calendula extract contained in Arnicare bath & massage balm will help to naturally hydrate and nourish the skin.
·       Try to focus on working in time with the persons breathing to help soothe and relax your loved one.
·       When working on tense areas or knots use smaller, deep movements that work the tension away from the area and continue past the area of tension. The sense of the essential oils of Lavender and Grapefruit essential oils in Arnicare bath & massage balm can help to melt away any tension and relax the mind.
·       End by using the same long smooth strokes you started with, this can help comfort and relax the muscles.
