Fairtrade Fortnight Spotlight - Traidcraft

Traidcraft is the UK’s leading fair trade organisation and the perfect one stop shop for everyone who wants to make sure that they support fair trade whenever they shop. In Traidcraft's online shop you can buy everything from groceries over clothing up to jewellery, gifts and toys for your youngest family members.

Traidcraft was established in 1979 as a Christian response to poverty and if you have a closer look at its structure you find out that it is something you can't call many businesses these days: it's unique. Being a trading company and a development charity at the same time gives Traidcraft the oppurtunity to address not only its customers but also to make people aware of the importance of fair traiding through their work as a charity.

But what does buying from Traidcraft actually mean? It is simple, it means that with every pound you spend, people in developing countries get the chance to use their skills and resources to work their way out of poverty – on their own and with being paid  fairly. But supporting Fairtrade products does also mean that you guarantee a sustainable production and that you help to pay for community projects that enable children to learn reading and writing. Of course, Fairtrade products will always be a little bit more expensive than your usual supermarket shop but if you've got the chance to get everything you need on one website then you can even justify buying lots of yummy chocolate – simply because you'll be doing a good deed.
