Warner Bros DVD Review: Big Top Scooby Doo and Tom & Jerry Trick or Treats

Half term was a tough one for us, both BG and I where ill. Warner Brothers send us a Halloween inspired box of treats including Big Top Scooby Doo and Tom & Jerry Trick or Treats DVD’s which was a life line. We had watch our other Tom & Jerry DVD about 6 times already I was starting to go a bit bonkers.

Tom & Jerry Trick or Treats

This DVD is now on constant loop in our house! A mix of old and newer episodes of Tom & Jerry they have a spookish theme to them. There are 22 episodes on this DVD and gets the big thumbs up from BG.

At £5.99 it’s a real bargain and guarantees some peace and quiet while it’s on.

Big Top Scooby Doo

Those pesky kids have found another mystery to solve.

When Scooby and the gang hear of a werewolf plaguing a traveling circus, they go undercover as circus performers to get to the bottom of the mystery. Things soon go from bad to worse when the number of werewolves starts increasing, and the members of Mystery Inc. realize they might be in danger of turning into these monstrous beasts themselves

We both really enjoyed this film; it’s a good Scooby Doo mystery with a few red herons and a good twist at the end.  A good family film whatever time of the year.

Warner Bros DVD Review: Rock of Ages

“Rock of Ages” tells the story of small town girl Sherrie and city boy Drew, who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. Their rock ‘n’ roll romance is told through the heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Foreigner, Journey, Poison, REO Speedwagon, Twisted Sister and more.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this film I had read mixed reviews but decided to watch it myself and make up my own mind.

The story line isn’t the strongest, it’s a bit wishy washy in places but it didn’t stop me from enjoying the film. The music is full on cheesy rock which is right up my street. Tom Cruise who I am not the biggest fan off is quite frankly hilarious, I am not sure if he is supposed to but he made me laugh.

Catherine Zeta Jones is brilliant in this film though my favourite story line involves Russell Brand (with the worse brummy accent) and Alex Baldwin.

Yes this a cheesy and predictable film but it doesn’t stop it being fun to watch.

DVD Review: Thomas The Tank Engine: The Mystery of Blue Mountain.

Dani and her daughter LS was invited along to Thomas Land to watch the new Thomas the Tank Engine Film, The Mystery of Blue Mountain.

LS loved this film, she laughed and she cried but she really enjoyed it, I must admit I found I enjoyed this film slightly more then I should at my age so I couldn't tell you who enjoyed it more. I think its slightly longer then Thomas usually is so was pleasantly surprised that LS watch it all without complaints. it’s a very great film, simple stories so children of most ages can follow and enjoy independently.

LS favourite part was towards the end she tells me when all the trains where happy and together, and from the fact that she screamed and cried at a part in the film when she thought Thomas was going to get hurt, I would say that that was her least favourite part. We also found ourselves being sprayed by water and jolted back in our seats at certain parts of the movie which was actually very funny, a lot of us unimpressed at the soaking but fun all the same. This really is a great family film, one that we intend to be watching for a while now,

Thomas land and Drayton manor theme park truly is a great family destination, it has something for everyone, big scary rides for the older kids and parents as well as small ones for the smaller kids, it has a fabulous zoo for the less adventurous people and arcades and parks for the all the kids. It really has everything and LS and I enjoy it more and more every time we go.

The Mystery of Blue Mountain is available to buy now.

Warner Brothers Review: The Vampire Diaries Series One

I have to admit I am not a Vampire Diaries fan but my sister is so she has written this review for me:

The vampire dairies is a fantastic series, I was a little worried that it would just be a rip off of the Twilight movies but I was pleasantly surprised at how wrong I was. The series is focused around vampire brothers, one good and one bad and both in-love with the doppelganger of an old love, both struggling with dark pasts and battling each other over there history and how they became vampires.

It has lots of twists and turns and dark secrets that will keep anyone glued to their TV. And if that wasn’t enough the show is packed full of beautiful people. I know I couldn’t wait to watch the next episode each time one finished. What I love about this series is that it brings all supernatural enteritis to the lime light and doesn’t solely focus on just the “vampires”, witches are a big part in the series, I also think that certain episode of this series that explains how the brothers became what they are is fabulous as you finally get a real understanding of why the brothers hate each other so much.

I don’t want to spoil it too much for you as this really is a great series; I know that the following series will bring more fantastic twists. Seriously, get watching!

The Vampire Diaries Series One, Two and Three are now available to buy

Warner Brothers DVD Review: Scooby- Doo Spooky Games

Ever since Warner Brothers sent us our first Scooby-Doo DVD to watch BG is obsessed with the show, we watch it daily on Boomerang and I have bought extra DVD’s for us to watch at home.

Warner Brothers sent us the latest release Scooby-Doo Spooky Games and BG was overjoyed.

The first episode is Spook Games which is like the regular series and Mystery Inc well have a mystery to solve the World Invitational Games. BG really enjoyed this one.

The other 4 episodes are classic All-Staff Laff-A-Lympics with Yogi Bear, the Flintstones and other old favourite characters. BG wasn’t as impressed with these ones in her own words “I don’t want the other people in it”. I have raised a Scooby-Doo purist!

I loved the old classic episodes but then I’m becoming classic myself.

Scooby-Doo Spooky Games is available from Amazon for £4.99 and last 113 minutes.

Warner Brother DVD Reviews – Easter Bundle

Warner Brothers sent us a selection of films to watch over the Easter break along with some yummy mini eggs.

This is what we watched:

The Easter Bunny is ill and needs someone to take over. Granny tries to get Bugs Bunny but he is too busy filming.  This feature length cartoon is full of your favourite clips from Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and tweety.

It is very funny and well worth the money.

This is one of my favourite movies I know all the songs and was excited to introduce it to BG. At 3 years old she just wasn’t interested in it so I will save it to she is a bit older. I can watch this over and over again; it’s a great family movie.

Gene Wilder is brilliant as Willy Wonka.

I really want to like this film but it doesn’t have enough singing for me! If Willy Wonka hadn’t been made first I think I would really like this but I really hate remakes.
 I
understand that this is a truer to the original story and of course its directed by Tim Burton so it was always going to be dark.

BG found the front cover a bit scary and hid it so we couldn’t watch it!

Yogi Bear £4.99

This is an enjoyable family movie as like most the plot is a little weak but doesn’t stop it from being good.  Yogi Bear and Ranger Smith work together to save Jellystone Park. I loved Yogi Bear as a child and would prefer it be a cartoon but I’m getting old and grumpy.

A nice Sunday afternoon film.

Universal DVD Reviews – Everything’s Rosie, Rastamouse, Driver Dan’s Story Train and the Jungle Book

This Easter we have been kept busy with lots of DVD’s to review which is great thing considering how bad the weather has been!

The lovely people at Universal sent us Everything’s Rosie, Rastamouse, Driver Dan’s Story Train and the Jungle Book and this is what we thought.

Everything’s Rosie - The Greatest Show in the Garden

We do like Everything’s Rosie in this house, it’s a really happy show which is shown on Cbeebies (actually these are all cbeebies)

Rosie and her friend Raggles  have lots of fun and learn along life lessons along the way. This DVD contains 13 episodes and lasts over 2 hours.  Its available from Amazon for £6.97 that’s a bargain!

Rastamouse - Hot, Hot, Hot!

I know Rastamouse started some fierce discussions in the parenting world when it first aired. BG and I saw a screening of it before it was on TV and really enjoyed and it will still do now. It’s a fun, colourful show and like all Cbeebies programmes teaches your child.

The DVD has live footage from Lollibop and Glastobury and activities you can print out. It contains 8 episodes and can be bought from Amazon for £4.99.

Jungle Book

This was our least favourite DVD out of them all. I think it’s because we are so used to the Disney version.

It’s a CGI animation series following the adventures of Mowgli and his jungle friends. It didn’t keep BG’s attention I’m afraid but it would possible suit an older child.

The DVD contains 8 episodes and is available from Amazon for £6.99

Driver Dan’s Story Train: Bouncing Bunnies

We love a bit of Driver Dan at bed time, we watch it before our bedtime routine.  It’s a great show for getting your child to calm down listen.

Driver Dan tells great stories and there is always a journey before story time.

The DVD contains 13 episodes including two never seen ones. It is available from Amazon for £6.99

Warner Brother Film Review – Happy Feet 2

Warner Brothers sent us a lovely penguin package with Happy Feet 1 & 2 and March of the Penguins on DVD. We also have a lovely Happy Feet Snow Globe.

Happy Feet 2 was release on 26th March and is available from Amazon for £9.

If you like Happy Feet then you will love Happy Feet 2, actually I think I prefer the sequel.

In this film Mumble our hero from the first film has a problem with his son Erik who doesn’t want to dance. Erik tries to run away and Mumbles follows him and they meet Sven a flying Penguin.  The world is then shaken by powerful forces and Mumble and Erik have to save the day.

Happy Feet 2 is full of great dance routines and songs and you can’t help tapping along with them.

I have to say I liked it more than BG who got bored half way through but she is only 3 and her attention span is short.

My favourite parts are with the two krill voiced by Brad Pitt and Matt Damon their scenes are hilarious!

Overall a big thumbs up from us. A great family movie ideal for the Easter Break.

Warner Brother DVD’s – Scooby Doo and Looney Tunes

We were recently sent some DVD’s from Warner Brothers to watch, they came just at the right time as BG was ill and we couldn’t go out.

This is what we watched:

Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated vol 1 & 2

I have to say Scooby Doo has changed a little since a watched it as a child. It is based mainly in Crystal Cove and has lots of new characters like their parents and hilarious sheriff. The  basic plots are the same and the gang help solve mysteries.

BG really likes it even though she’s only 3, I think some of the storylines go over her head but she doesn’t seem to mind. The only thing that I don’t mind is the relationship dynamics both girls are trying to get the boys to be their boyfriends I don’t think it’s needed.

Even so it’s a new favourite in our house.

Both DVD’s are available from Amazon from £4.97

Looney Tunes Big Faces Boxset

This made my eyes light up my childhood in a box! It has 10 DVD’s and incudes Bugs Bunny, Taz, Daffy Duckand Tom & Jerry. We are half way through it and so far BG is loving Bugs Bunny!

The box costs £22.49 from Amazon which I think is a bargain and is perfect for a wet afternoon or half term (which is not far away)

I am looking forward to seeing what we are sent next to watch!

Parent Panel Review - Barbie - A Fairy Secret DVD

Price: £7.97
Available from: Amazon,
Suitable from: For all ages
AboutWhen Ken is suddenly whisked away by a group of fairies, Barbie’s two fashion stylist friends reveal they themselves are actually fairies and that Ken has been taken to a magical secret fairy world not far away!

Barbie and her rival Raquelle take off with their fairy friends on an action-packed journey to bring him back. Along the way they learn that they must stick together and discover that the real magic lies not just in the fairy world itself but in the power of friendship.

Initial Reaction: Its Barbie...expecting lots of pink and fluff. Kids said it sounds boring.

Pros: Short enough so kids don’t get bored, know who the main character is , good for younger kids , cute animation

Cons: Story is a little shallow and did not hold my interest at all.

Value for money? Yes

Overall Reaction:  For me I found the movie rather boring and after 5 minutes had my book out but the kids seemed to enjoy it (and they don’t normally watch movies. They had seem Barbie before on Nick Jnr so this was something similar to them) . My 5 year old said “it was a fun movie, I liked Barbie and I liked the Fairies and it made me laugh and i want to watch it all over again” . So while I would not recommend it Know my girls do and as the movie is aimed at them then I would say it is a winner.

Parent Panel Review- Grandpa In My Pocket Mr Marvelloso’s Magic Tricks DVD

Product : Grandpa In My Pocket Mr Marvelloso’s Magic Tricks DVD

Price: RRP £7.99

Available from: 7th February

Suitable from : It is enjoyed by my 2 year old but really mostly appeals to my 4 year old. (4-7 yrs )

Initial Reaction : We are already fans of Grandpa In My Pocket in this house so we were pretty much onto a winner. These new episodes take the original premise and some new fun storylines and make for good viewing. What we like is how the episode takes a storyline ,such as the one about the boy next door who comes to play but is abit of a bully, and makes it funny but also has a lesson to learn. The boy next door learns that its not nice to frighten people thanks to Grandpa's antics.

Pro's : Another good educational but fun BBC children's program

Con's : there are none

Overall reaction: Definatly a winner , we will probably enjoy repeated viewings of the dvd before the episodes are shown on tv.

DVD Review – Scooby Doo Camp Scare

When my Brother was little he’s favourite carton was Scooby Doo, he had two films that he watch over and over again. One was called Scooby Doo and The Ghoul School and for the life of me I can’t remember the other.

I have to admit that even after being made to watch Scooby Doo over and over again I still have a soft spot for the show. When I was asked if I wanted to review the new Scooby Doo DVD (PG) I couldn’t say no.

Scooby Doo Camp Scare is a typical Scooby Doo film, pretty funny, a little scary and very cheesy but that all adds to the film.

All your favourite characters are there Scooby, Shaggy, Freddy, Velma and Daphne. I have to say me and OH enjoyed it more than BG but at 23 month she is still a little young for Scooby Doo.

I liked the DVD, I didn’t work it out until right near the end, though OH claims to have worked it out right from the beginning!

The only negative point I have is the women scantily clad in bikinis and the men looking them up and down, Thee is one scene where a women pulls up in a boat in a very small bikini, her boob just fit the top and Freddy looks her up and down! Very, very inappropriate for a
cartoon, other than that I liked it.

Would I buy it? Yes, ideal film for Halloween

You can purchase Scooby Doo Camp Scare from Amazon for £9.93
